24/7 Emergency

We are excited to announce our new Exotics Department is available and accepting patients. At BEVS, our mission is simple, to deliver the best veterinary care when you need it most. And exotic pets are no different. They need routine wellness care, access to advanced diagnostics and surgical procedures, and emergency attention when sick or injured, just like any other pet.

Led by Dr. Jordan Adair, our Exotics Department will provide comprehensive wellness and preventative care, nutrition, advanced diagnostics, medical diagnosis and management, as well as orthopedic and soft tissue surgery to those very unique, furry, scaly, and feathered pets. In addition, our exotic patients have access to specialized housing, high-quality digital X-ray, ultrasound, CT, endoscopy, and in-house laboratory and pharmacy services.

Which Exotic Pets Do We Treat?

An exotic animal is considered any pet that is not a domesticated dog, cat, or large farm animal. At BEVS, we welcome the following exotic pets for treatment and care:

  • Small mammals including rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, chinchillas, hedgehogs, and all pocket pets
  • All non-venomous reptiles
  • Most avian species including parrots, raptors, poultry, and waterfowl
  • Wildlife (with valid wildlife rehabilitator permit)

What is a “Pocket Pet”?

A pocket pet is a catch-all term for any mammal small enough to fit in your pocket, such as rats, hamsters, mice, gerbils, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, and degus. Growing in popularity throughout the years, pocket pets have become a staple in homes due to their small, cute size, and fun personalities!

Which Exotic Pets Are Not Treated at BEVS?

Our Exotics Department does not treat venomous snakes, most medium to large primates, adult ratites (Ostriches, Emus, Rheas), or any illegally owned animals. Per Vermont State law, some animals require a permit to own and for us to see.
