A Familiar Face Returns: Meet Dr. Josie Mallinckrodt, BEVS’s New Surgeon & Medical Director
A Familiar Face Returns
Some of the best hires aren’t new faces at all. They’re people who already know exactly what makes a place worth coming back to. We’re proud to welcome Dr. Josie Mallinckrodt, DVM, DACVS (SA), as BEVS’s new Surgeon and Medical Director. If her name sounds familiar to longtime clients or referring vets, it should. Josie spent time on our team earlier in her career, and now she’s back to help lead it.
Why This Matters for Vermont Pet Owners
Dr. Mallinckrodt is a board-certified veterinary surgeon (Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Small Animal), meaning your pet has access to advanced surgical expertise right here in Vermont, from a doctor who has trained and practiced at some of the field’s most respected hospitals. That’s the kind of specialty care families sometimes assume they’d have to travel for. Not anymore.
Meet Dr. Mallinckrodt
Josie grew up in Salt Lake City before heading to Colorado State University to pursue veterinary medicine. From there, her path took her through a rotating internship in Los Angeles, hands-on experience at Sage Veterinary in the Bay Area, a stint right here at BEVS, and time at a private practice in Colorado before returning to join our team as surgeon and medical director.
Outside the hospital, Josie is married with kids and shares her home with three dogs. When she’s not in surgery, she’s likely skiing, hiking, out on a walk, cooking, or with her nose in a book.
What brought her back? The chance to help grow a positive, forward-thinking culture alongside a team she already knew was excellent, and to make a direct, meaningful impact in a small, close-knit community. As for settling into Vermont itself, she’s looking forward to the people, the outdoor adventure, the openness, the apples, and a slower pace of life.
What This Means for Referring Veterinarians
Dr. Mallinckrodt’s return strengthens our in-house surgical capacity and gives referring practices a board-certified surgeon who already understands how our team collaborates, because she’s worked alongside many of us before. If you’d like to discuss a case or reconnect, our referral team is ready to help. Contact our referral coordinator to discuss a case or schedule a tour of the surgical suite.
A Team That Grows, But Doesn’t Change
BEVS has been part of this community for 20 years, nights, weekends, holidays, whenever pets needed us. Dr. Mallinckrodt’s return doesn’t change that; it reinforces it. She’s not new to this community, this team, or this hospital, she’s coming home to it.
