“Minnie” the three-year-old Chihuahua was enjoying herself on the Stowe bike path, when she was attacked by a larger dog (Bull Mastiff). In the veterinary world, this scenario is unfortunately so common, there is an acronym for it — BDLD, which stands for “Big Dog-Little Dog” — and it almost always results in an emergency situation. Little “Minnie” was picked up and shaken by her attacker causing bite wounds and a degloving injury (when a section of skin is forcibly detached from the underlying tissue). “Minnie” was brought to her regular veterinary office where surgery was performed to repair her injuries and then she came to BEVS for overnight monitoring. The photos provided by “Minnie’s” mom are two weeks post surgery and show how well she is doing now.
