Jowee Jiao-Harrington
Hospital Manager
Jowee Jiao-Harrington is a foreign veterinary graduate from the Philippines. She worked for 16 years as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) at multi-specialty hospitals in California. Jowee moved to Vermont in 1998 and worked at specialty as well as full-service veterinary facilities. She joined BEVS in 2005 as a part-time ER tech, then took on the position as hospital manager in 2007. Jowee is a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), a member of the Vermont Veterinary Technicians Association (VVTA), Veterinary Hospital Managers Association(VHMA), Northern Vermont Veterinary Practice Managers Group (NVPMG), and state liaison for the Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Association (VESPA). She shares her home with her husband Sean, two sons, Joe and Dana, and their Abyssinian guinea pig, ‘Lady Ayame’.

Office Manager
Elise Forgues is a native of Vermont and has been in the veterinary business as technician and manager for the last 26 years. She joined BEVS as our office manager in the spring of 2007. She is a member of the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA). She shares home with her husband Roger and an assortment of spoiled animals.

Jennifer LaDouceur
Client Care Supervisor
Jennifer oversees our hospital’s client care team. Jen graduated with a Bachelors degree, major in Geography (with Honors Recognition), from Northeastern Illinois University and an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Oakton College, Illinois. Prior to her move to Vermont she performed technician as well as administrative and client care duties at veterinary hospitals in Chicago, Illinois. In her free time she enjoys reading, dance and bike-riding. Jen has two cats named Pixie and Sara and a mixed breed dog, Gepetto.

Aimee Gilfillan
Aimee started her career with BEVS in January 2011. She joined us with a degree in Office Management from Champlain College which has served her well in a variety of positions, including most recently, owning her own grooming business. Aimee lives in Colchester with her husband, three small children, two small dogs, and one fat cat.

Whitney Bierschenk
Administrative Assistant
Whitney joined our client care team in July, 2009. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2008 with a BS in Animal Science and a minor in Business Administration. Whitney tackles many roles at BEVS, her favorite being marketing and social media. She has an asthmatic cat Julie, an allergic dog Hobbs and a Morgan named Ex. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her animals, snowboarding and rock climbing.

Brenna Mousaw, LVT, CVT
Internal Medicine
Brenna Mousaw is one of Internal Medicine’s head technicians. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1999, from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors of Science degree and from Harcum College with an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology in 2004. She completed a year internship at the University of Pennsylvania’s Large and Small animal hospitals. Brenna worked at the New Bolton Center with large animals before moving to Vermont. While not working, Brenna enjoys kayaking, backpacking, and hiking with her dog Roscoe.

Katherine Edwards, CVT
Internal Medicine
Katherine Edwards is one of our Internal Medicine veterinary technicians. Katherine graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2004 where she received degrees in Psychology and Sociology. She then attended Vermont Technical College’s Veterinary Technician Program in 2007. During this time, Katherine completed her internship with BEVS emergency team in the summer of 2008 and went on to graduate in 2009. Since joining the Internal Medicine team, Katherine’s interests are oncology and feline radioiodine therapy. When Katherine is not working, she enjoys live music, traveling, photography, and her beloved Golden Retriever, Jack.

Katie Henderson, CVT

Katie Henderson was born and raised in Vermont’s beautiful Northeast Kingdom. Katie graduated from Johnson State College in 2005 with a BS in biology and a minor in chemistry. She went on to graduate from Vermont Technical College’s veterinary technician program in 2008 and joined the Burlington Emergency and Veterinary Specialists (BEVS) later that fall. She now works as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) for both Emergency, Surgery and Internal Medicine. She has interests in home improvement and remodeling, running and hiking with her dog Murphy, reading, and rooting for her favorite hockey team (go Pens!). She lives with her dog and two cats, Sidney and Tait.

Michelle Senna, LVT, CVT
Internal Medicine
Michelle Senna is one of Internal Medicine’s technicians. She graduated valedictorian in 1993 from Mt. Ida College with a bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology. She then completed a yearlong internship at the Animal Medical Center in NYC where she became licensed. After living and working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician in Manhattan for five years, she moved back to her home state of Vermont where she is a Certified Veterinary Technician. Michelle shares her home with her two cats, Kiko and Olivia and her chocolate Lab, Dallas, the Wonder Dog. When Michelle is not working she enjoys hiking, yoga and kayaking.

Canaan Bleakney, LVT
Surgery
Canaan Bleakney is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and recent addition to the Surgical team here at BEVS. Canaan graduated from Johnson and Wales University in 2000 with an AS in Animal Science specializing in Equine Studies and Riding. She has worked in veterinary practices for the past 13 years with large and small animals, concentrating on surgery for the past few years. She grew up in the lovely western mountains of Maine, moved to Rhode Island for college and stayed there to live and work for many years before returning to Maine. Canaan moved to Vermont in August, 2011. Joining her on this exciting new adventure are her two fabulous children, Ella and Matthew, Casey the Collie, Monkey the famous three legged cat, and Maisy the guinea pig. Canaan enjoys hiking, horseback riding, biking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and cooking with her family. She can also be found in her glorious backyard swinging in the hammock reading with her children, under a shady tree.

Tracy Loiselle, CVT

Tracy is a native Vermonter. She graduated with an Associates degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Vermont Technical College in May 2003. She worked in a general veterinary practice for several years before focusing on surgery. She has been working as surgical technician in a specialty hospital for the past 7yrs. She has a mixed breed dog named Lexie and lovely cat named Olive. When she is not at work she enjoys gardening, quilting and taking walks with her dog.

Justa Malone, CVT

Justa Malone is a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) and is charged with BEVS’ state-of-the-art laboratory department and the challenging technicians’ training protocol. She wa s born, raised and currently resides in Barre Town, VT. She completed a year of veterinary school at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia in 2002, before finances forced her to seek other educational avenues back in the United States. She graduated with an Associates degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Vermont Technical College in May 2004 and in December of the same year; she also finished up a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science from the University of Vermont. Before joining the BEVS team in 2005, she spent 13 years as a volunteer and later the Supervisor and CVT at the Central Vermont Humane Society. She loves playing with her two seven years-old rescued dogs: Border Collie mix “Riley” and Australian Shepherd “Atticus.” Outside of work, she enjoys volunteering at low cost spay/neuter clinics throughout the state, pet-sitting, doing martial arts, swimming, watching movies, horseback riding, doing Zumba and traveling – she got an amazing opportunity to travel to South Africa in September 2011 for a vocational exchange program with Rotary International.

Jenn Grenier

Jenn Grenier is a member of our overnight veterinary nursing staff, and has been with BEVS since 2005. In 2000 she began her career as a veterinary technician at Onion River Animal Hospital and worked there for six years while attending UVM and pursuing a degree in the animal sciences. For the past two years Jenn has taken on the task of inventory and ordering for BEVS. Jenn currently lives in Milton with her boyfriend, her black labs Charlie and Duke and their nine year-old greyhound. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding with her 12 year old Tobiano paint, Peter Benjamin, hiking with her dogs, and spending time with friends.

Lisa Ay, CVT

Lisa Ay graduated from the Vermont Technical College in 2007 with an Associates degree in Applied Science, Veterinary Technology. She has been working in veterinary emergency facilities locally since 2005. Her interests outside of work include hiking, skiing, and spending time with close friends. She has four cats, Beefy Jones, Diesel, Tragedy, Futz and one dog Nicodemus.

Stacy Mabee

Stacy has been working as a veterinary technician at BEVS since 2009. She has held many roles in the animal industry including a position as an animal control officer in Indiana. In 2000, Stacy has also worked at the Chittenden County Humane Society as an adoption counselor. Stacy lives with her family in Williston.

Jo Collemer, LVT, CVT
Emergency
Jo Collemer is a Licensed and Certified Veterinary Technician. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Animal Medical Technology (With Highest Distinction) from the University of Maine, Orono in 1976. Since then she has worked at practices in Maine, where she is licensed, and in Vermont, where she is certified. Nursing and surgery care are the two areas on which she enjoys and her varied jobs at BEVS and VTCAN! She is an original member of the Vermont Veterinary Technicians Association (VVTA), she is a five term VVTA secretary/certification coordinator; a “job” that allows her to enjoy contact with many other technicians throughout Vermont, New Hampshire and New York. Jo has lived in Middlesex for 25 years with a “herd” of cats. Among her other interests are sports, gardening, reading, and feral cat rescue.

Abigail Garrett, CVT

Abigail is a Certified Veterinary Technician in charge of BEVS’ imaging department. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA and a BS with a concentration in animal science/ pre-vet medicine. Abigail graduated nursing school with her RN in 2010 and expands her interests in critical care working as a cardiology nurse at a level 1 trauma center. She has four dogs, eight chickens, a Bengal cat and a Hanoverian. Her hobbies include horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, traveling, gardening and relaxing with her family and friends.

Lupe Sears

Lupe previously worked for the U.S. State Wildlife Department studying 15 species of birds in the beautiful islands of Hawaii. She returned home for the love of her home state and was hired as a veterinary technician at Richmond Animal Hospital. She enjoyed 10 glorious years at Richmond but wanted to keep expanding her horizons and decided to enter the fast paced life of emergency work. Lupe started at BEVS in 2005 and enjoys every minute of the new technology, medicine and state-of-the-art facilities at BEVS. She is a mother of two wild and extremely entertaining children and many misfit animals that have enriched her family’s lives for the better. She is dedicated to her job, loves the excitement and fast-paced environment, and, most importantly, tries to make a more comfortable environment for the animals and their families while at BEVS.

Megan Sullivan

Megan Sullivan joined our client care team in July 2010 after volunteering with both the Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology Departments. She is currently a senior at the University of Vermont studying animal science with a pre-veterinary concentration. In her free time she enjoys hiking, kayaking, and scuba diving. She is currently living in downtown Burlington with four roommates, her rescued kitten Kyra, and a Bijon Cavalier King Charles puppy.

Rachel graduated from Vermont Technical College in 2005 with a degree in veterinary technology and has since been a practicing CVT . She lives in Huntington with her husband Miles, dog Dexter and cat Bruce. Rachel loves being a technician and working with the ER crew. When she is not working she enjoys hiking, skiing and snowmobiling.

Maria joins us from Florida where she assisted in canine rehabilitation. For the past nine years she has worked as a veterinary technician in a variety of animal hospitals both emergency and general practice.

Nicole Rogers, LVT
Nicole Rogers is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and is a member of the Vermont Veterinary Technician Association. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology at Medaille College in Buffalo New York in 2004. After graduating Nicole worked in general practice for five years then decided to move to New York City where she worked in the critical care and emergency department at the Animal Medical Center. Although she enjoyed living in city, she missed Vermont and moved back in 2010, where she spent three years working at a Surgical Referral Center. She is passionate about her job and loves emergency medicine. She has two fun loving Rhodesian Ridgebacks named Duma and Kali and a spunky kitty named Jayda. When she is not working, Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and gardening.
